Its been fun here in northwest Indiana this last week listening to the toads calling. We've had really nice weather this last week and the toads have showed up for mating and started calling none stop. My upper pond is under the kids bedroom windows and have been driving them nuts. Teenagers haven't come to appreciate the simple things like just sitting back and watching nature take it's course.

The frogs came to our pond for the first time this year. We live across the street from a natural creek so they never needed to venture our way. Don't know why they did after 10 years but I'm loving listening to them while sitting in the hottub at night. They are VERY noisy!

Are you sure they are frogs? I can only try to describe the sound of a toad call as blowing into a cheap cracker jack whistle about half power lasting from 5 to 10 seconds. I never realized a toad came to water to mate until I built my ponds. They lay their eggs in what looks like a log semi clear membrane and when they hatch their tadpoles are much much smaller than a frog tadpole. Once they mate they leave. On the other hand, frogs croak and they seem to stay in the pond all summer.

We have a creek behind our house. I love the sound of the frogs and toads. We put a tadpole in our above ground pond last year and he is now a frog doing well. I was relieved to see he survived the winter!

I guess I don't know what is making the racket....frogs or toads, but I still like it. It is a lot of calling from one side/end to the other. I think there might be 3 or 4 in there. I'd love to have tadpoles. I have two bio filters that serve as the ponds' waterfall, a lot of the croaking seems to be coming from there. Maybe they are in the plants.

Oh ,yaa Kokomo. Great town. I heard one of the foreman on my job talking about our company having some work coming up in your area.Who knows, I may end up in your neck of the woods for awhile.
