I feel for you, The wife just had a surgery yesterday so I'm pretty much in the same boat. doing all my chores and hers as well. She's going to be off of work for a month! AGH< washing clothes, dishes, vacuuming, dusting, feeding critters, cutting grass, and taking care of ponds, PLUS working. Egads how much can us guys handle!

Actually, I love it when I'm by myself. I grew up as a single kid and I love the quiet and the solitude. When my kids were little and my wife took them to see their cousins in CA my life would be much more regular. The fridge was clean and neat, the dishes were all washed. The house was neat and quiet. I exercised regularly and usually lost 10lbs on my own cooking. But of course I couldn't wait to get all the chaos back! (Seriously, cooking was quick and simple for me and I have enough underwear to last a month!)

Ahh, poor guys :( But Larkin, I do hope your wife "survives" this. And John, I'm with you -- only child & enjoy my time to myself (Hubby has 3 siblings, so he's never been able to understand the "loner" mentality). Like Sissy said, paper & plastic!

Best wishes!

Arg, I can see why we lose weight when were alone, The dang dogs ate my whole box of Popeyes chicken and biscuits the wife wanted for dinner. So she had to settle for frozen pizza and I had a bowl a cereal. the dogs had $25.00 woth of chicken, guess I don't have to worry about feeding them tonight! :-(

Larkin, Popeyes? My wife has a background in nutrition so we don't have butter in the house, rarely have fried foods, never "junk food", lots of fruit and vegetables, no gravy, no bread at meals, no or extremely low salt diet, need I go on? Anyway when I applied for more life insurance a few years ago they cut my rate in half over the normal price because I guess they considered me healthy.

CometKeith, I agree with you totally. Due to finding out I had high BP recently I completely changed my diet. Oatmeal and lots of fruit fiber. Cutting down on meats and salt and eating lots of veggies. Lots of exercise. I dropped 15lbs since I began and about 50 points in systolic BP.

John that's great. It's all common sense, but it's hard to break old habits. To top it off because of my sensible meals I can still drink as much dark beer as I want and not gain weight. For Fathers day our kids got me a bunch of new ones I had never tried before like dragons breath and night train! I'd rather enjoy that then a big piece of cake any day!

It's extremely hard to break old habits especially since my wife's family are all big people and always have lavish meals. The biggest changes I've made are not eating potato chips, fried foods and fast food, 3 things I used to like a lot, especially fried foods. I've been able to cut them cold turkey so far.

Cutting down on salt is much more difficult as every single processed food is loaded with salt. You pretty much have to go with fruits, steamed vegetables and boiled rice!

When Val goes into hospital for overnight stays at on the chest ward I just crack on and blitz the house from top to bottom .
I hate being alone I really do, I put some good Rock on or one of my favorite CD's and away I go.... It takes my mind off things and Val comes home next day to a gleeming home, plus seeing as I dont sleep much its something to do in the wee small hours .

Last I checked butter is better to eat then margarine, it sure tastes better. But we stopped buying either as it just dies of old age in the fridge. Used to fry my 'free range eggs' in butter but switched to a non stick pan and a wif of spray oil which is olive.
