I have a 4000 gallon pond was going to put a island to protect the fish and was wondering if creeping thyme is toxic to fish as I was wanting to put on top of the island.

Naw any thyme is fine near a pond. I have it near mine and have heard others that do also. It doesn't like it wet tho so make sure you have a dry area for it on the top of your island.

I'll bet dollars to donuts that creeping thyme, Thymus serpyllum, appears on some toxic plant list some place. Most plants are toxic at some level to some individuals. For me the question isn't whether a plant is toxic, it's whether fish, pets or people will eat enough to do harm. Thymus is using in cooking, but thyme oil is considered toxic.

Here's an Angel Trumpet over hanging my San Jose Koi pond. Datura is toxic at some level. My Koi ate the flowers that dropped, then ate the flowers that hung down touching, then jumped up to grab leaves and pulled in, and broke off, whole branches to eat the flowers and leaves. They didn't die. Might have been tripping, but they didn't die. I'm not saying toxic plants are perfectly safe, but I think it's less of an issue than one might read.

I think you had some happy, hippie, hallucinating fish there Waterbug! They are beautiful plants and lovely fragrance at night. Had one for several yrs till it got so big and bushy I decided to plant it outside one yr for it's last hoorah. Got tired of moving it in and out of the green house every winter. It also got white fly or aphids.........can't remember which off hand but it was lousy w/ them and I tried everything to get rid of them but they just kept coming back. When I took it out of the pot and planted it the problem went away! So it had a good last summer to enjoy life!

I have thyme planted outside my pond, I have not noticed any issues, but it does like it dry so I don't think it would venture very far into the water.

I have Thyme planted in spots around my pond. By the end of summer, it will drape over the sides and into the water a little.
