Sorry I’m trying to write this post on my phone.

I just moved into a new place and we have this pond in our backyard. We’d like to get it working but have no idea where to start. My boyfriend thinks there is a pump but we can’t find one or identify if the things in the pictures are the pump.
Any advice would help!

First off, look for cords. I see hoses, but no pumps. Then, get a pool net, and fish out the leaves. Post more pictures of the entire pond, so others can help spy any pump, filter, etc. Tell us how big the pond is, where you are roughly located, and what you’d like it to be once it’s done. Where you live effects what can be done with it, how deep it should be, what plants and fish are suitable.

I’m not familiar with a set up like yours, but my first thought is that the pump was removed. So if you can’t find it, be ready to buy a new one. Once you know your ponds volume, you want a pump that moves the full volume moved 1.5-2 x per hour, so if that is a 1000gal pond, you’d be looking for 1500-2000gph.

Thanks for the reply Jamie! We figured there was no pump, and there’s no cords anywhere to be found near the pond. I suppose like you said the pump was probably removed. We live in Central Florida, and we are in the process of cleaning it out right now.

The last photo looks like a Union with a ball valve . That would lean toward there was a pump

Welcome to our forum!

Get it cleaned and take a many pictures as you can of the set up. See if you can get the size also, i.e. length, width, depth. The more info the better we can help you. And we love to help!

Thanks for all your advice guys! I’m a completely newbie as I’ve never had a pond before. Right now I’m just trying to find out what to do to get get it operational. Seems like a few people think there is no pump, so if I bought a pump for my size pond - where do I put the pump?

you have parts missing to connect your pump the plumbing the collar is missing i believe you will have to cut off the ball valve and install a new. probably a union as well. and the pipe in the pump.... it's outside work and you can have methods of payment without ever getting within 20 feet of the worker, Call a plumber... or order submersible pump With hose and leave it exposed until you feel safe to get more involved.

Seems like I will have to call a plumber because I have no idea what any of those terms are LOL. Plumbers will work on ponds?
