Yesterday came home and saw a crane or stork not sure in my pond! I ran to look and noticed that it had pushed my pots off and 5 of my largest koi gone!

Darn that sucks, it might have been a great blue heron. I fought one all last summer, alligator heads and some chicken wire won the war so far.

Bummer pidluk, the war is on now! You have to get out there and secure that pond or that bird will be back everyday till he cleans out your pond! I have a 2 - 3' wire fence around my pond and a loud talk radio setup on my front deck to come on dawn to dusk. Haven't seen him since the radio was put out there. Some here are talking about using a pergola for shade over their ponds and that also hides the view of your pond from the birds as they fly over but also hides the sunshine from your plants if you put shade cloth over that or have climbing plants on it.Guess you could just leave it w/ open slats to let some sun in or maybe there is some kind of cover that the uv of the sun can get through.

Sorry to hear that. I have my pond completely covered by nets because of the herons. I have PVC frames and zip tie bird netting to them. When I want to enjoy my fish I just remove the frames.

How about just doing a chalk outline and some yellow tape?

the heron is still flying roof top height over us, so far it has not landed.

Maybe a shotgun, yellow tape, outline on the ground..........guard pit bull, might just keep them away

Of all our pets: birds, cats, fish, they would all eat us if our sizes were reversed, except for dogs!

Speaking of eating things.........my cat caught 2 moles, must have been young ones, but she didn't hurt them. I didn't know there were 2 till I got back from taking the poor scared 1st one off into the woods down the road. Then I discovered the 2nd so had to walk the 2nd little guy all the way back again to the woods. She's always killed them before. These 2 were lucky I guess! My neighbor lady was there when I found the first one and she would not look at it from fear till I made her.................then she thought it was kinda cute, lol!
She said it's a lot better looking than those ugly Possum's! Course I think they are kinda cute also if they would just keep their mouth's shut, lol! Now getting back to the Heron, I think they are a beautiful bird but not allowed to kill around my pond!!!
