This may seem like a silly question but I have a couple bags of pellets that I obviously wont be needing for months. Does this stuff store ok with normal indoor temps once its opened or would it store better in the freezer? Does it matter??

I store mine in a sealed rubbermaid container. I've read that it can go bad....but I have to admit, I've overwintered mine in a kitchen cabinet and used it the follwoing Spring. Kim

In a cool place. Biological activity of all sorts go down with temp. I put mine in the garage. Not as cold as outside but cooler than my pantry.

I use a food sealer or freezer bags, stick it in our chest freezer. I had picked up a bunch of high dollar koi food on sale, per some people it loses nutrients once exposed to air. It does come expiration dated, but again who knows. The net says it looses some of the nutrients after opening.

Everything looses nutrients after opening just like a new car looses value after you drive it off the lot .I it would not matter that much if they have plenty of healthy stuff to eat in the water .Maybe vita water for fish HA HA

I imagine vaccuum sealing and refridgeration would be best. But, you should NEVER FREEZE koi / goldfish foods. it can damage the fats in the food compromising the fat soluble nutrients

I found a large mason jar with the metal buckle and the rubber gasket at an antique shop. the kind ppl used to keep suger and it has worked out great. Air and water tight have left it out in the rain by accident. No moisture and no swelling of the food. I store it in a cabanet in the garage until spring. I put it in a cabanet because I have heard that too much sun can degrade food also.

I never store old fish food, the dogs eat it, and the fish eat the dog food!!! Ha ha ha ha... It's true!! my big Koi eat high quality made right here in Alberta Dog Food (also grain free). I have been feeding those big koi dog food for at least ten years now and they are all very healthy !! Some of my really big koi are over twenty years old and stay outside all winter so they need good fresh high fat puppy chow dog food all summer!!

Colleen your koi certainly look like they like their diet of dog food! Good that you can get it fresh in your area.
Has to be cheaper than koi food. My goldies are only around 6 to 7 inches so even the koi pellets seem a little large for them to eat. :)
