How to find leak in pond liner?

The liner of my 2500 gallon in-ground pond was damaged by a feral hog who fell in and then thrashed around trying to climb out. Does anyone have ideas on how to find the penetration? The leak is serious and I must fix it. I let the leakage continue until it stopped when the water level was about 9 inches below full. I have searched the liner at that depth but I have not been successful in finding the hole. The liner is black and is covered with mineral deposits, moss, and other marine growths.

Any ideas?

When the water stops dropping that is now just below your rip or puncture. There however is probably more above that so just as you find one keep looking and be thorough. its usualy a bit of a fight but sometimes we get lucky too

To find my leak, after the water loss had stopped, I removed all the rock to that level and pulled back the liner to find the damp spots.

A huge disadvantage to big boulders. They are not moved easily

When I have had edge leaks, deer walking on the edges of the small ponds, I look for wet out in the dirt. That much water it will be mucky and wet.

Take a rough sponge and try to clean where the water stops, use your fingers to feel for a tear. Will take time, but you might find it that way.

Do you where the hog was in the pond? Tried to get out? Check that area the best.
