How did they edge this?

I'm just trying to come up with some ideas on edging. I don't want to surround the entire pond and stream with large rocks. I want some areas where river rock meets the grass. However, I don't want the river rock to slide down the sides when my kids start walking close to the edge. My sides won't be this steep, but how was this edging done?

@RobAmy would probably know. Looks like the rocks go all the into the bottom on the pond as well, so maybe stacked with some cement/plaster ... whatever in some key spots. Just a guess.

I understand what you mean, I kind of wish I had a small section angled like this. It would be neat for the kids to get right to the edge of the water. My sides are a bit raised.

Hard to tell from that size picture, but it looks like they just used river rock with no cement. That angle is not that steep to do that. However you could not walk on that without it moving. You could possibly cement just the areas where you want to walk and leave the stones exposed. This really is not a good design with kids, larger pets etc. This is done a lot to create a dry creek bed effect around here.
