.My husband and I are new pond owners and recently added three koi to our pond. After placing them in our pond, they are suddenly gone. We feed them everyday, but I really don't know if they are even in there. Are koi known to hide in rocks or plants? We can see to the bottom where all of the rocks are, but we never see movement! Also, now there are small black tadpole looking things. Any ideas? Clearly, we are new to this whole thing!

Welcome to our group!

Some hide well until they get used to the pond, or ..........you have a predator.

Agree with what Addy said.

Want to add that I moved fish from my pond to 150 gallons containers. I noticed the fish in one container were at home and doing the feed me dance 2 weeks ahead of the others. Just depends on the psychology and group dynamics of the fish. I expect one terrified fish can cause the entire group to be skittish.

Try to tempt them with a bit of garlic extract, soak your pellets in it then throw them near to where you think they are garlic acts a little like catnip does to cats you can buy garlic extrct at your local fish outlet it is made by Seachems.
The preditor addy suggested might be the reason orthere may be something other going on in your pond.
What are your water perameters like .
Also did you QT your koi before putting them in the pond(this is important because you can pick up on any problems prior to them going into the pond.
I normally QT my koi for 4 weeks prior to them going into our pond .

The tadpole looking things are probably tadpoles, i.e. frogs or toads to be. I have thousands, they don't bother my ponds.
I put some shubunkins in a small deck pond, most of the time you would not even know any fish are there, they are still hiding, it has been a month now. I see flashes now and then.
