I'm having a pergola built over my koi pond. When I came out to see how it was going..I noticed that the carpenters had spilled dry concrete into my koi pond. They said it was just dirt....but...when my husband got home we could clearly see it on the bottom. Is it going to kill my koi? What should I do?

a small amount of cement getting in the pond really shouldn't cause much problem, remove all that you can, and keep an eye on your PH. I doubt you'll see a fluctuation unless it's a few pounds or more. a small amount shouldn't be in there long enough to cause problems, BUT DON'T let the carpenters know that, make them think your koi are worth thousands of dollars and that it could kill them. MAYBE it will scare them enough to be more careful. The worst case scenerio will be a increase in GH and PH, both can change some but you could get about a equal change just from doing a water change so again, I'm pretty confident you should be ok as long as it was a small amount. Say under a handful or two.
