I have 2 large Koi, which are about 22-24 inches. 1 is white and yellow and the other is white and orange. I also have 3 goldfish ranging from 6-12 inches that I need to re-home urgently. I live in Las Vegas and have to move and am not able to take the fish with me. The new homeowners do not want them and I cannot seem to get any help here locally so I am grabbing at strings for any help from anyone anywhere. I have contacted just about every company in town that deals with ponds and no one is willing to help at all, if I even get a response from them, including ATM (TANKED SHOW)-no response at all!! I am afraid of what might happen to them if I am forced to leave them to the new homeowners since they do not want them to begin with. I am in a financial situation where I could use a payment for them, but at this point I just want to make sure that they are taken care of properly. I appreciate ANY help or direction that anyone can offer- thank you so much!!~

I am so sorry you have to re-home your fish. I imagine it is hard to find a proper home for such large fish like koi.

I don't like hearing the ATM folks didn't even respond to you. I really enjoy watching their show and always thought of them as animal lovers (at least Wayed anyway) I would think if you could get them to respond they might at least be able to give you some leads on who might be interested and able to give a home to your babies.

Have you tried running an ad on Craigslist? Have you checked to see if there are any pond/aquarium clubs in your area? Maybe you could try ATM again? Maybe even send them a letter explaining your situation?

Good luck to you and keep us posted please

Contact the ACKA they will be ale to tell you about the nearest koi keepers societyheres their web address :-

http://www.akca.org/

In the UK we have a koi and goldfish rescue service run by my friend Max , there is one in the US run by a Zen bhuddist lady but she lives the other side of the US.
I hope you do find homes for them because as koi keepers for the last 28 years my wife and I know just how attached you can get to them

Maybe @peter hillman ? He's the only one off hand who is in Vegas that I can think of.
Close too, but actually Reno... I'd try craigslist, I put an ad up last week for my sunfish, but all I got were people wanting Koi.
here's my ad...http://reno.craigslist.org/pet/5208411243.html
Not the best way to re-home but it's tough to get the word out unless you're in a club or secret fish society.
On my visit to our pond shop/Koi dealer yesterday I asked if they could help, but the owner was not around.

What about trying a pet store? I've seen fish at my pet store that have outgrown their tanks and the owners put them at the pet store on consignment. I would imagine a non chain pet store might be interested. Large koi can mean a large price.

Good luck!!!!

Try contacting veterinarians in the area and see if any of them know of people who have ponds, or who have pond-contacts. Are there any zoos or aquariums in the vicinity? Contacting someone like that might get you some names.

Good luck and best wishes!
