Hi all, appreciate if you can help identify this water plant. We fished it out of a local pond.. seems like some sort of lily.

It's coming to winter here in Brisbane, but not too cold, maybe lows of 5degC.

Any recommendations on how to propagate or care for these?

Thanks!

There are apps you can download where you take a picture and it tells you what it is.

Pardon my ignorance, however are the spiky parts supposed to be above or below the water? It appears to be a floating variety, rather than rooted.

Hi guys, am I supposed to plant this in a pot? I can't see any roots, just more leaf stems growing...
Or does it just keep growing as it is, and floats around by itself?

It looks somewhat like a Water Banana (Nymphoides aquatica), but I don't think they are found in Australia.

I am new to water gardening so sorry I don't have any first hand experience with a plant that looks like this.

I did find this link that might be helpful for you seeing as you are down under. It will probably be a lot easier to identify if it flowers again. There is also a link to truly free-floating aquatic plants found in australia but none of them resemble your plant.

A couple of plants on that list you are supposed to notify someone if found in Australia, so might be worth keeping an eye on just in case it's a newer invasive.

I think this is a species of Nymphoides, in the Bog-bean Family (Menyanthaceae).
I'm not sure of the species, but N. crenata (with yellow petals) and N. indica (with white petals) seem to be the common species found around Brisbane. It would be great to see the plant flowering.
