Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself to the community. I purchased a new home (new for us) this past year which came with a 1600 gallon Koi Pond in the front yard which was built in 2000. I've spent about a year now trying to tend to it, failing my way to success in most cases. I often tell people that, now that I know just enough to be dangerous, I would have built the pond completely different. I have really enjoyed our pond, though it has required a lot of work to keep just functioning. I'm at the point I really want to retrofit the pump system and add a UV and skimmer. These are all projects I hope to take on in the next month or so, though I'm a bit intimidated as I'm not generally a good handyman. I inherited a fish guy from the previous owner who has been great. He and I developed a 12 month retrofit plan that was very cost affordable. Unfortunate he passed away unexpectedly in January and I haven't been able to find a cost effective service sent. I've been researching a lot and I hope I will be able to succeed with my retrofit. My constant stress is the 3 butterfly koi and 2 very large Japanese koi which have become our pets. I will probably be reaching out for advice a lot, including tonight, and I'm very excited to learn from veterans who are willing to offer their insights.

Look forward to speaking with folks.

Jason

Thanks Sissy, looking forward to all the advice from veterans.

DrCase - I greatly appreciate the encouragement. I really hope so. The fish becoming pets is a huge added stress and generally what limits my time for fixes.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

To our group!

You will make it! I bet you are capable of fixing the pond yourself, learn, read, then get to work!

If you love your fish than you would be the best care giver and worker they can have .Other people don't care about your fish as much as you do .Once you get into it you will be amazed at what you can do .

welcome

Jrm40982, remember that most of us are only but so "handy" and it's about your pond functioning properly not always the aesthetics. We all want crystal clear water but we have also learned that as long as your fish and pond are healthy and happy that's the most important
