Hi everyone!

My husband does all the work at our pond. He and our son hand-dug it about 10 years ago. We have fish and frogs, and until recently (something destroyed our lilies and we don't know what), lilies. We also have plenty of landscaping, catty ninetails(is that how you spell it, lol) and other plants.

Our pond is aproximately 17' by 15', kind of heart shaped, and is about 4 ft. deep. We are currently trying to figure out what has been at
our pond. We had a few small lilies, and 2 months ago, someone gave us 2 new and bigger lilies to add to our pond. But...something chewed up all our lilies and they sort of disappeared. Now something is chewing up our hostas in the landscaping surrounding the pond and there are hosta leaves collecting in the water around our nine tails. We are baffled, cause we don't really live next to any woods or anything.

I love being on our back deck during the summer and listening to the frogs and, birds, while I paint. We also have a little chipmunk that loves to sit on the rocks at the back of the pond and eat seeds he stole from the birdfeeder.

Thanks for letting me join!

funny thing is there are woods and farms all around and the worst things I have gotten is neighbors dog and deer that come and think my pond was a watering hole .I solved the deer thing as I bought a water trough for them .Oh yes and the occasional cow or goat from a local farm .

Thank you and that's what we first thought. Can they do that much damage in a short time? Half of one our hostas was chewed right to the ground. The first lily to disappear had a really big root on it, but I don't know, we are looking forward to solving this mystery. Might try one of those cameras that films at night. Either way, we're having fun trying to figure out what it is!

My husband did. He loves being outside and working around the pond, it's relaxing to him. The frogs in our pond are like pets to him, lol. He's very protective of them.

Thank you!

to our group!

Do you have ground hogs? I do, they love lilies and hostas, this is the time of year they are eating a lot getting ready for hibernation. I lost one lily including most of the roots. Have the ground hog on film munching away.

You know, I bet that is it. I guess we were thinking whatever it was, was in the water because we are finding hosta leaves in the water, but maybe
it's a groundhog and they munch on the plants then get thirsty, lol! Yes, we do have groundhogs in the neighborhood and I think you have probably
got it right. We'll have to try and get it on film. Thanks!

Oh yes ground hogs love there veggies anything that is green .I have even found rabbits drinking from my pond this summer it was so hot and dry .I took an extra piece of liner dug a small hole that was more shallow all the way round .Don't want floating bunnies  I had to give the deer a place to drink and to keep snakes away a garbage can lid in a dip in the yard ,what next  bird baths for my feathered friends because aggie (koi)tried to drown one right in front of me .I am guessing she thought it was lunch ,poor little guy was soaked but fine when I rescued him . I was cleaning the filter and the bird bath had not been refilled after it was cleaned yet .
