Hi,

I'm Alistair. I've just clumsily built a small wildlife pond in the back garden. It's now got lots of mud in it so clearly I have lots to learn!

I'm in North East England, close to the sea. The pond is partially shaded close to a North West facing wall. I'm not planning on having any fish [yet] but I've heard from a few people that sometimes you just get them anyway.

Prepare for lots of obvious questions, but hopefully I'll be able to give some pond advice of my own one day.

Hi Turtle Mommy,

Here's the current state of play. I lined the pond with turf [first big mistake] so I'll be lifting that out tomorrow and getting as much muck out as possible. I'm going to buy a small submerged solar pump and filter too and replant my plants into mesh cages. I'll also buy some more plants. The pump I'll try to make into a waterfall.
