Hello everyone,
Just found this site while searching for diy filters, particularly looking at the possibility of adding a small waterfall to increase water movement and aeration. Just trying to work out how to go about this. There are some good ideas here. This site has already proved useful, hence, my joining.
Mine is not the usual type of pond. As you will see from my avatar, my little pet ducks float in it, (that's Charlie and Little Baby Birdie in the photo). Six ducks in total share the pond. It's made of fibreglass is 1.5m in diameter with a few deeper spots for dabbling and bobbing, and shallow areas for the ducks to enter and leave the pond. Yes, it was specifically built for them, but I enjoy it too. A garden hose runs to the pond for regular flushing out and topping up. When I flush out the pond, the water runs into the overflow channel which waters and feeds nearby plants As you can imagine, being a duck pond it has a high "nutrient" content, that's great for the bananas!
As you will know from your own ponds, it can be very relaxing sitting by water. Now add the sight of some serene little ducks floating there, very relaxing indeed.
