Hey all,
Just joined and still collecting info for my first pond. As an experienced indoor fishkeeper, I'm familiar with multi-tank syndrome and know that I can't afford that when it comes to ponds...neither from a financial, real estate, nor spousal goodwill perspective. So I have to make the first one count. Would love to have koi and goldfish but I'd also like to keep great whites in my 125g aquarium so I'm familiar with disappointment. Probably can't cram more than a 14' circle pond (4,500-5, 000g) on the property when I include waterfalls, bogs, and maybe negative edge reservoir.
Still researching...don't know enough to ask intelligent questions but they will be coming soon and I'm sure you all will be tired of hearing them.
Looking forward to the journey..thanks all,
Andy

Welcome here. I am looking forward to updates on your design and project!

I have goldfish, an assortment. I went ahead and added some baby koi. And some white cloud minnows too.................

I am a little sorry about the koi since I worry about how big they will get and I hear they really shred plants. But right now they are so cute and still the same size as the goldfish. Goldfish come in so many colors and shapes it is like having multiple kinds of fish to have different looking ones.

I have about 3000 gallons and a good sized bog. So I am not overcrowded yet.

I think I like more fish versus fewer big fish, but I can let you know how I feel in a few years.

Here is a pic from today with the 3 koi in the mix. I have more plainer orange goldfish than I would have chosen because I adopted 19 fish from my mom when she was closing down her pond and she happened to have more orange ones. Many do have longer fins.

Welcome @Andyhos1 !

You hit on one great way to increase pond volume without increasing the footprint - underground water storage. We have 1000 gallons underground, and no one even knows it's there. I wish we had put the pond in before the paver patio went in - we could have added thousands more under the patio with no trouble... other than the cost of the Aquablox!
