I already posted for advice in the general chat so I thought I should do an intro here. I'm 58, live in central CT on a half acre. I have a sharp slope from my driveway to tieback yard and struggled with how to utilize the area. I terraced it and installed a pond closest to the house for goldfish. When I failed at growing vegetables on the other side of my pathway, I added a second, larger and deeper pond. I moved my goldfish there and added four inexpensive koi. I tried to utilize the other pond for turtles but even with a fence, I couldn't keep them from getting away, so I am back to two fish ponds (@ 1000 and 2000 gallons).

I designed and built them myself, both have waterfall/stream features. I have struggled in the past with algae and heat issues, but mostly with blue herons. I have to net my ponds in late spring, and again in fall (to control the leaves).

My goldfish used to breed profusely but not anymore, I'm guessing the koi are eating the eggs? It's not a bad thing because at one point I had over 100 goldfish in my smaller pond and that led to oxygenation issues in the high heat periods.

I moved to this house in 2000. The first pond was completed by 2003, the second around 2007.

to our group! I fight with the heron all summer, the wide weave gill net has won the battle for me.

welcome and the more aeration you can add to your pond the better .I use ball valves off of my pump to aerate the pond water besides an aerator
