Hi all, first time to this forum, glad I found it. I've had three ponds so far that I built, one for each home. (Literally myself...rented a back hoe to dig the hole, used kitchen sink granite scraps for surrounding landscaping, including many plants, smaller rocks from my yard...)Currently my pond is 1300 gallons, and my goldfish keep having babies! Have about 30 now. My 3 Koi are really big now, and sadly I am going to pass them onto a wonderful pond store in the area who will take good care of them, too much fish poo. I'm moving again soon...and don't have time to build my fourth pond until Spring, before the ground freezes here. So wintering my fish, I hope, indoors in my new large basement with windows, in a 300 gal tub. All advice welcome!

Welcome Prof! Since you are a 'seasoned' pond keeper no need to discuss the basics such as cycling the tank etc. I would concentrate on placement of the stock tank. Make sure you have easy access to water and a drain. No idea how large your 30 fish are but that could be a high bioload so you will be doing water exchanges. Consider how you will do partial water exchanges removing the water and refilling. Any electrical should be plugged into a GFCI socket. I have a couple of stock tanks indoors and will happily share lessons learned. Glad you found the site!

Welcome ramron67! A lot here on this site from your part of the country...You did a nice job on your pond...Glad to hear that you will be rehoming your koi...So sad that many people don't realize just how much waste they produce and don't understand why they have water quality issues..Keep us posted on your next project:)

Cycling the tank has to do with the nitrogen cycle. It's essential to know about that and what it means to your fish.

Just search nitrogen cycle online and you will find plenty of information.
