are the filters new? If so, it can take up to 6 weeks for them to cycle with good bacteria. In that time the water may turn green and clear several times.

Your tag line says you have a 2000g pond. How big are your DIY filters? Could also be that they are too small to develop enough bacteria to support the pond.

The filters are old and were given to me from a uncle who passed away, the pond they come from was bigger than mine and have work perfectly since, in fact, the water up to last week has just been getting better!!

I guess they have been running now for about 7-8 months!!

If it makes any difference, i would say the water started to turn when the sun started to show here in the UK, but had no probs last summer!!!!

Cheers for your thoughts on this Koikeepr!!

Doing a 50% water change as we speak Drcase!!

Let you all no how it turns out, will give it 24hrs to run thro the filters again, although the Answer is showing signs of crap again already!

you're on the right path. Yes, I now remember the story of your uncle bequeathing you the filters! Glad you've put them in motion.

Water change is great idea and it does sound like a new UV is on order. THose two will help.

Don't forget 20% water changes each week. Very important, particularly in the hotter summer months.

its makeing it harder to clear up and i also have 3 huge pices of window screen.
when i take the screen off all the stuff from the oak fall off but that will stop by 2 weeks or so. when i open the bottom drain
on the filter how long should i let it run out for
