My new pond (3 months old) is so pea green. I have ordered some Tetra pond water clarifier. Has anyone ever used this product before and does it help? My pond is about 8 x 16 (about 500 gallons). I have added 20 baby goldfish (the water is so bad that they cannot be seen - so I assume they are still in there). I have some water lilies and some water lettuce and water hyacinths (small). I had been using quilt batting but quit using it because it did not seem to help. I have been adding bacteria from Aquascapes using it per the directions. I need help!!! I am so discouraged. The water clarifier that I ordered will probably arrive tomorrow. Will I be making a mistake to try it. At this point I am ready to drain the pond and call it quits. Everyone who visits to see my "NEW POND", says oh my goodness, what's wrong? Any help will be appreciated.

Quilt batting takes awhile to work and there is no quick fix until the pond balances itself .I keep quilt batting in a basket in my filters all the time .if you keep ahead and start early before algae starts and test your water it will keep it at bay .I start in Feb.

it takes a while for your pond to get going true, what size is your pond and how big is your pump? I thought I needed a uv clarifier but found out that water hyacinth, and other plants do a terrific job of filtering out that nasty water. Frog bit spreads really fast and they look like little lilly pads. Remember a pond is an ecosystem and requires balance, so you should consider adding some other critters to the pond besides fish, such as crawfish and snails, they are bottom feeders and will eat all the stuff at the bottom of your pond. Also, I added an aquaponics grow bed, I pump the nitrogen/oxygen rich water out of my pond into an grow bed filled with gravel and various plants such as lettuce, tomatos, etc. When the water reaches a certain hieght the bell syphon kicks in( which i made out of pvc) and forces the water out of the grow bed and back into the pond thus filtering and oxygenating the water even more and at the same time growing my delicious vegatables and herbs. UV clarifier, lol, who needs one.

Quilt batting will work much better with the clarifier. The pea green water is hard for the filter to pick up as it is so tiny, but the clarifier will clump the very tiny particals together so that it may be picked up by the batting. When you are using the clarifier make sure your pumps and filters are working good (and clean every day) as the clarifier will temporarly reduce the oxygen in the water.
