Before anyone critique my ring for trying to keep to see if my hyacinths can be saved...... I made this out of pool noodle, landscape fabric.....some fiberglass screen material....ty-raps and silicone......stuff I had....didn’t even have to go to Lowes ....Sarah’s first comment was “that looked like “sh##”....and I agree....but all these have the roots nibbled off and the balloon bulbs have Koi holes in them......I promised her if they revived I would make something more pleasing to look at.....spent some time getting everything vertical again......it looks terrible now but two weeks time it will look better...... but guess what is coming again...about an hour and a half late today.....lol

Yep, we’ve both got weather jacking with us. Despite only a small rain yesterday, I’m guessing it rained hard north of us cause the river came up 20+ ft to flood again! Insert grumpy face, which means if we can’t get a truck out, I’ll have to ask my mom for a ride. Love her, but not in a mood to deal with her. She’s all about drama.

A note of caution....I bought floating nets for my pond plants one year. They worked beautifully, I was thrilled....however I looked out the window one day to see one of my koi trapped inside one. Thinking it was a fluke I kept the floating nets in the pond....a day or two later a different koi was in one.

I removed them as I was worried they'd hurt themselves thrashing about and they looked as if they were being served up on a dinner plate to any predators !

Week one with the “Butt Ugly Plant Ring “.....On top not looking much better, probably worse.....but on the bottom roots are growing back.....so I have hope that they will come around.....but in the meantime the honeybees love my Ugly Ring....there is a constant stream of dozens at a time coming to get water.....for some reason they feel comfortable landing on the plants and then going down to get the water.....needless to say its an experiment.....fun to look at every day.....Jimmy

I meant to add a similar caution - we took the floating island out of the pond after a few of our koi jumped up into it trying to get some food that had gotten tossed in. Like @Tula I was concerned they would do it when no one was around to get them out again. Just something to keep an eye on!

I have my net underneath deep enough if even one of the bigger ones got in it.....it would survive until I woke up or got home from work.....might not be happy but would survive

Since Sarah and I have to get up so early in the morning for work (3:00 am arrrgh)we have our lights come on in the pond at 2:30 am and so the first thing I do after getting a cup of coffee in my hand is go check the fish......and when I come home I do the same......since our disaster 2 years ago we are pretty diligent
