I had bird netting over our ponds but with me being out of the area and no one being around the ponds, we now have a HUGE heron! The netting was suspended over the ponds on pvc poles. The bird has crashed thru and torn the netting. Checked on the web and found woven black netting23'x23' for $35. from Aquatic Ponds. Ordered yesterday and it's here today! Also, netting received is 23'x33'! Extra 10'! I checked with the manufacturer and the netting is 23x33 and lists for $58. so I guess I got a bargain. Not sure how it will look but need to keep this bird out. Will post pics once it is up.

Wow mrsclem didn't know the bird would do that! Hope he didn't get any fish! Good to know and helps people in thinking on which kind of netting to buy. So I guess the bird can't bust through the new stuff eh?

good luck mrsclem, It was an all summer fight with the heron here. So far we have won. The alligator heads seem to do the best. The bird has not tried to get into the pond since I put them in, it sure has visited, circled and ate bugs

Unreal it crashed through the net, maybe it is so fine it could not see it.

The black plastic netting I had was almost invisable. It did a good job of keeping leaves and stuff out but we kept fi nding the edges pushed into the pond . Though it was deer drinking till I saw big bird walking around. I didn't know weather to grab the camera or the pellet gun! We secured the net around the walls of the pond but then found it ripped over top of the poles so something hit it from above. No fish missing so far and new net will be up in the am.

Glad to hear your fish are fine, it prob didn't even see it, all it saw was the fish waiting to be eaten.

I have the deer fencing over the middle of the pond, visible and I don't think the bird can get through the net.

Good that he didn't get your fish and if he didn't know that net was there when he hit it I bet he was one shocked bird and would have been interesting to see how he got outta the mess! That one bird may never come back after going through that but you will find out soon enough. If he does come back he'll walk all around the pond and try to find some way in and when he can't he'll prolly still come back a few times more. They are quite persistent buggers!
