I've noticed a distinct behavior pattern in my fish. The two common comets chase each other (sometimes in such a tight circle they look like a rotating ying/yang symbol) and they chase the Sarassa. The Sarassa doesn't chase anything but food.;) I know it's not spawning season, but could this have any indication of their genders or are they just prejudiced against the Sarassa?:)

By the sounds of things the sarassa comet is a female. The males will chase the female come spawning time. They can breed several times a year depending on the temperature of the water. Once the goldfish go through 1000 degree water temperature days, each day over 15 degrees counts the eggs will then be mature and ready to spawn. You can notice that males develop breeding tubercles which you may see on one of the common comets. Did you ever have any eggs laid after the chasing?

I've only had the fish for a couple weeks. I've not seen any eggs. I see this same behavior everytime I watch them. They don't seem to be real aggressive, like I've heard can happen during spawning. For the most part they look like there playing. I was curious since they do repeat the same pattern and it seems that the Sarassa kinda hangs out by it's self for the most part. Even when they swim "together" when not chasing each other, the Sarassa always seems to be a little further away and the common comets swim close together.
