I am waiting to build my outdoor pond while I find a leak in my sprinkler system that has flooded my new pond area. So why not practice my bog building in my koi greenhouse.

I started off by moving my small waterfall bog and prefilled and replaced with a framed 4 x 6 foot wall with 45 mil liner and carpet. I am adding a 2 in abs pipe with 2in slits every 2 in with an air stop at the start and a clean out at the end. Just about to start gluing it.

Then I plan 3 in plus rock at bottom to fill the 3' by 4' 8 in deep hole at bottom then top with 10 to 12 inch of pea gravel and place about 20 plants.

Estimated 4 to 8 hours, on about hour 20 and still 4 plus to go to rough it in. Will have a 30 in wide water fall exit over a flat rock and covered edges.

Well maybe one more day, moving rock took forever. Plants and top frame tomorrow.

Greenhouse bog is substantially complete. Just drilled holes in my waterfall rock and attached it with 1/4 inch carriage bolts. Key was to drill with 5/16 into rock and 1/4 into the wood. The 5/16 allowed the square to lock in while the 1/4 wood kept the screw tight while threading the nut. Got lucky and the bolt bit into the rock to give a smooth edge for liner.

You can see the old but nicely mature 2sf bog that kept the 7 fish healthy. I just wanted room to feed them more and let them grow as well as get some experience with more plants and designs while I get ready for my outdoor fun.

Done for now. Last step will be to mortar the waterfall. I like to wait a few weeks before doing that to tweak things and make sure no leaks.

My goal is to ensure this can support 10 fish. The old bog handled 7 @ 15" with no water quality issues but I felt I was at my limit. Found one baby koi from the late spring breeding that somehow survived.
