i'm not sure if this has ever been recommended, but i was in need of skimming my pond
a couple weeks ago. it's pretty clear of plants at the moment. i grabbed a piece of rigid foam insulation 2 in
thick, about 4-5 inches wide, and about 4-5 feet long. the length depends on your needs.
it floats nicely and when pushed along slowly from one end it does an excellent job of skimming debris,
algae, and surface slicks. in my pond i can fill it up to the brim and it flows out a corner.
so i do that and push the skim that way and out of the pond. works well for me at this point,
though i want to build a skimmer.
