Floating plants with filter box

My pond/waterfall has a filter box and basket at the side that sucks in debris and filters the water. I tried a couple floating plants but they also get sucked in to the filter basket. Any suggestions on how to prevent this?

Any way to stretch something across the surface like fishing line out from the filter to act like a barrier? This would hook the floaters before they get to the filter itself. Would depend on the geometry of your setup. Thinking along the lines of a floating plant ring, which I also believe some people tether them in place.

A floating plant ring sounds like a good possibility. Thank you for the suggestions.

You can keep them in a floating net ring or run a fishing line across the pond just below the surface. Being just below the surface, the roots will get caught and prevent the plants from getting past it. Since the fishing line is below the surface, it won't inhibit the skimmer's function.

Foam pool noodles and hula hoops work great as plant rings or feeding rings.

Best to have it just above the water surface so it skims off the top still
