We all read and hear all thesae different figures about the most fish we can keep in our ponds...i dont know or care who comes up with and/or compiles these figures, but it seems to me theyre merely guesses. i know i am so far overstocked according to all these standards i shouldnt have any live fish...that said lets try to get a feel for an average fishload with our members.
PLEASE, IF POSSIBLE post your ponds water volume....your number of koi and their sizes... your number of goldfish varieties and their sizes... then a total of inches and then whichever poll categorie best fits your situation.
In my case i'll even use my basement pond its 2/3s the size of outdoors..
pond...800gals
koi....5 fish @ average 16".........80"
........20 @ 5" average................100"
goldfish 3 fish @3" average.........9"
pieco 1 fish at 18"........................18"
grand total of approximately..........207" of fish in about 800 gals of water
that means i have an approximated average of 1" per 4 gals (3.8 gals)

i would like to participate in this, but I dont have a clue to how many Koi or gold fish are in my pond. Maybe at feeding time i will try to get a count and size estimate.

26 Koi =205"
8 goldfish= 40"
1 Pleco= 15"
Total 260" of fish in 2500 gallons = 9.6 gallons per inch of fish
40% of the koi are between 12"-17"
40% are between 8"-12'
20% are under 5"
all the Goldfish are Comets and Shubunkins and all are about 5" average
I feed four - six times a day and feed med. size to small feedings. Clean prefilters daily
back flush my Bio filter weekly and do weekly water changes.

you know i never agreed with those numbers after i became more experienced in fish keeping. it seems to me that the more experienced you are, the more you get away with...i have kept fish that are supposed to eat each other and fish that are supposedley too large for my aquarium fine and in perfect health for a long time....i understand the no fish bowl stuff but i think that since a pond is closest to nature its easeir to get away with overloading because it takes care of itself as it ages

2500 gal pond
140" of fish per 2500 gals of water
Appx 1" of fish per 18 gals of water
That is if I figured it right
