Hi everyone,
We are new to the forum. About a year ago we bought a house with a pond with some koi and other fish (approximately 7 15-30 cm kois and many (20ish) smaller blackreddishbrown fish).
We try to take care of the fish as well as we can but we are no experts.
Two weeks ago we noticed that one of our koi had these white patches. Also the fins have white swollen edges. The other fish do not show any of the symptoms.
I don't know if these things are related, but I noticed it a few days after I had filled up the pond with tap water (some water had leaked out due to a blockage). I think I added about 25% of the total volume.
Our pond is approximately 1,5 x 2,5 x 1,5 (deep) meters. It has a pump without a filter that pumps the water through a natural filter made of stone and rocks and plants.
We have done a bit of research, but all diseases (fungus, carp pox and white spot) we've found show similarities to what we see.
A week ago we added a general medicine against white spot and several fungal and bacterial infections to the water, but it seems that the patches have only grown worse.
Right now we've isolated the fish in a plastic container.
Our questions are:
What disease does the fish have?
Is it contagious to other fish? Should we put him back with the others?
Is there a medicine?
If it is carp pox: it says it is a benign disease, but could the fish suffer because of it? Can fishes feel itchy?
