heres my story, i have a 5000 l pond, i have a 3000l p/h pump feeding a 3000l p/h bio filter, (5w) and i also have a 4000l p/h pump feeding my home made filter. this is a black box type thing, with obviously an inlet and outlet either end, with different types of filter media in between.

i only installed my homemade filter a few days ago, but am already doubting its performance, due to the lack of change in water clarity

i am debating buying another larger biofilter to put on my more powerful pump, and or buying a few snails to eat excess algee, or buying chemicals to clear the water..... please reply...

any advice welcome :100:

What it amounts to is a small pond complete with a liner, in that I put piping evenly spaced on the bottom to pump the water into. Then added washed gravel plus the filter mats from my old filter. I have not got all the plants I want to put in the gravel yet but man is my water clear now. I connected this bog to my pond with a small gravel and rock stream which I plan to also plant with water cress, parrot feathers and other plants that look interesting. One of my koi was trying to swim up my stream, kind of neat, but I don't want that, I'm afraid they would land on the grass be done for. I found some really good ideas on the internet. It is not complete yet, probably will be a work in progress for several more years, but I will try to get some pictures to post.
