here are few more pictures - including my pond. The filter is not in its location yet.

i can see your not gonna get a swirl...your gonna just get waster blasting against the wall....the water should exit the swirl pipes and follow the wall.not just bounce off. the idea is to create a whirlpool effect.... see how i even angled mine for a smoother transition....the water and debris leave the pipes and smoothly roll around the curve of the tank, all the muck gets whirlpooled, and quickly settles..yours will actually encourage some to deflect up into the media area.

I agree with koiguy on the swirler. That pipe behind your 90 needs to be shorter so your swirler isn't so long. Make your swirler as short as possible so you get that circular motion.

By the way, great job cutting that light grid in one solid piece. Nice work!

actually the swirler ends (90s) should come out almost touching the wall but at an angle where the water can smoothly transition on the wall and follow its curve.. its harder to do with this design, but can be done. you'll need a 22.5* or a 45* to angle the tee pipe for maximum efficiency. use street pipe it's smoother run for handling solids so less resistance. heres a sloppy drawing to give an idea of what i mean..out of proportion, scale and everything...but...here goes. the idea is to follow as much of the rounded wall as possible.
think back when you were a kid and you were in a round or oval pool and some called "WHIRLPOOL!" and everyone ran around the pool along the wall, and everything wanted to pile up in the center of the pool....same effect!! we used to do it to vaccuum our pool, suck up one pile..DONE!!

ok - I will be making some adjustment to the swirler. Thank goodness it is not glues together. Gotta get that swirling effect going - that is for sure.

Don't glue anything IN the filter together. It's not necessary, and allows for tweaks and removing the swirler when it comes time to cleaning the filter. You only need to glue pipes OUTSIDE of the filter.

theyre just called elbows buy a 45* and a 22.5* angle.. buy the "street type".. and see which will work best and return the other(s)... if you ask, a sales associate will show you. the street type are for sewage and have less resistance. the angles are rounded out for smooth flow and handing solids.
