I am in the process of putting in my first pond. I have not had the time to do alot of research as this pond was suppose to just be a rock wall and then my wife decided she wanted a pond. I believe I am around 2500 gallons and plan on having a waterfall, plants, and goldfish. I bought a beckett 3560 gph pump and firestone liner. Pond is 34" at deepest point. Do I also need a filter or will the plants take care of it? If I need a filter what is the best option for what I described. I am trying to spend as little as possible this year and will upgrade if needed next year.

Also I saw a place on line that sold starter kits of plants based on pond size. Is this the best/most economical way to get plants?

Look in the diy section of this forum, a lot of easy to build filters that will take care of your pond.

You would need to price out the plants to see if that is a good option. Make sure they ones they offer will do well in your area.

Look in the diy section for filters. These are pretty easy to make and way cheaper then a store bought one. And in some cases preform better.

As for plants. This time of year look at craigslist and local nurseries. Crags is usually flooded with people thinning thier ponds and most nurseries are trying to get rid of stock before winter. I would suggest grabbing hardy plants for your zone since the season is almost 1/2 over.
