What would be the best filter for my pond its 2'deep x 2.5feet w x 8foot long as I've bought a pump that's not wot I'd thought it would be or do what I wanted on the advert it looked ok but just wouldn't run a waterfall so looking for a good pump that would run a waterfall may be a inline filter

Well how high is your waterfall, ie head pressure, how many gallons to your pond.
I use external pumps, some use submersible pumps. There are a lot of factors to figure in to select a pump

It would only be a 12" to 18" above the pond and I want to use maybe a 5litre tub at the top hiden by slate I'm hoping it will run off the slate into the pond

So the head pressure is low, so gallons per hour needed. Put liner under the slate to make sure the water makes it to the pond.

You can have a natural pond that works well without pump or filter. Its not like it doesnt occur in nature . Its not easy to establish one with enough plants, micro organisms and the right secret combination that makes such a pond clear, healthy, and good looking, but if you have one, more power to you. Or did you just build a pond and it looks clear.. for now?

What you cant have is a lot of fish in there. Not without pump and filtration.

There are people that have natural ponds without a lot of filtration etc. But like you say low bio load, lots of plants some water flow.

I have a friend that has a natural pond, but it has constant fresh water from a stream, now he has to muck it out, it is full of silt.

I use a more "natural" filtration, gravel and plants, but my bio load will never be huge.
