To remove some of the silt from the field stone I used as edging, I setup up a small 8 gallon rubbermaid tote / filter. From top to bottom is is : open lid, small rocks, cut up furnace filters, out take valve, (2 inches from the bottom)

Or, should put on the lid, make the outake on the top, then have the intake on the bottom?

If my pond is 700 gallons and the filter is 258gph, shouldn't I start seeing results in about 3 hours or so?

I would put some of the famous (sissy, jw) quilt batting into a net bag and let the water flow through it, it catches the real fine stuff very nicely.

With the intake on the bottom output on the top the stuff that drops out of water and collects on the bottom of your filter setup, won't wash back into your pond.

Is this your filter or just a extra one to try to remove the silt from the rocks / a pic would come in handy.
Silt is realy fine and you might try to use some pillow stuffing to catch the stuff

This is a filter to remove the silt from the field stone edging.

I am doing a wildlife pond, plants, rocks, brush piles and rock piles to attract wild life. I'll have a minnow (or sunny) or two to control the mosquitoes and algae.

I have a bit of the quilt batting I will put in a net bag.

Do I just drop it i the pond and stir up the water?

Put the batting in a net type bag and place where the water will flow though it like a water fall a stream etc. You could even put a bag of it in your filter.

One of my friends had an extra 900 gph pump he was not using. So I am putting it in tonight and letting it run. I also put in some coagulant. Hopefully, that will eliminate this issue.

If that does not work, I will put some of the batting in the built in filter. Right now, it is the standard black foam, pretty open pores.

Never knew having a pond would have been so difficult....

On a side note, I noticed the walls of the pond were slimy to the touch. Could this be an algae bloom? It is not green, but is almost a dirt color.

You are growing good algae, let it grow. Helps the pond.
