Hi I’m looking for a filter and pump kit for a 1000 Litre raised pond with 5 goldfish.

I was planning to run the pump from the pond bed up and over the pond wall (3ft High) down through the filter then back up through the outlet pipe to a swillway blade back into the pond.

Can anyone suggest which filter/pond kit would suit Without blowing my budget!

Many thanks

I would say it would be best to go with at least a 1000 liter and hour pump, and for filtering you could do a small bog, a pressure filter, a bio filter at the top of the waterfall, or as long as you have a surface for benifcal bacteria no filter at all!

I would not reccomend a pump+filter simply because if something breaks you sometimes have to replace the whole unit.

I filter exclusively with a gravel bog. A bog filter can be any size, small or large, depending on the surface area of your pond. If you have a large fish load, the bog surface area should be 30% of your pond surface area. That's if you are exclusively filtering with a bog. Water gets pumped to pvc manifold pipes which have several slits cut in them. They are covered with pea gravel. Plants are grown directly in the bog, no pots. The water travels through the slits in the pipes, rises up through the gravel and back to the pond. The plants absorb excess nutrients which prevents excess algae growth. You can have one manifold pipe or many, depending on the size of the bog.
The results are clear water with zero maintenance. No constant rinsing of filter media.

Welcome @Grey Haven ! We'd love to see photos of your pond!

The standard recommendation is to turn your water over 1.5 to 2 times per hour. In your case that means a 2000 l per hour pump (or about 600 GPH, I'm guessing) pump. Remember that how high and how far the water has to travel is part of the calculation, as both reduce GPH.

I also agree with the bog filter idea - simple to build, simple to maintain, easily integrated into the beauty of your pond, and more places to grow plants! Your plumbing plan could remain the same - just run the water through a bog and back into the pond via spillway.
