Hi, I hear u but given the size if my current pond, if I do a bog with my expansion the actual pond will be no bigger than I already have !

You can get creative with the bog; for instance, a common complaint from those with above ground ponds and wanting a bog is they have no room. For them, we say; you can use narrow planters and put them ABOVE the pond, edge to edge. So, you COULD configure something like this too in that you'd have some of your pond below your bog 'box'. Would be more engineering and probably a hassle, but doable. Otherwise, if you DON'T have the room/space for a bog with your expansion, ALL you have left is submerged all in one store bought filters. Now, IF you have room SOMEWHERE ELSE on your property, not too far from the pond, you can put a bog in there and run the return water via either pipe or stream BACK to the pond, giving you the same effect.

I would definitely entertain the idea of a bog along with the use of the nexus. The 30% is a recommendation pond size to bog but if that is supplemented by other means it can change. From what i remember the drum has all the water flow over and through the micron screen where heavy sediment gets pulled out of the water and as the drum turns that debris ir removed from the water where the spray heads wash the micron screen and flush it out. How much water this demands a day i do not know maybe you can educate us. the bog would simply be removing the need for the bead filter and adding a heck of a lot more as they are both about surface area where the bacteria can grow. Now if your using k1 or similar engineered bead where it's hollow and has pores the surface area may be greater then that of equal size of a bog. The big difference being only bacteria can really survive in your bead filter and not the dozens of other microbes and such. and then there's the crem dele crem . The plants . They do have an active roll in filtration one that your system misses . phosphates and nitrites are as issue for your set up nothing is geared toward those two common compounds in ponding. But plants thrive on them and thus the advantage . so would i get rid of your system. No would i expand and look at the benefits a bog could offer your now set up and growth .. YES

A bog with plants.
Zero maintenance. No cleaning filter pads.

A window box planter or wooden box (with a liner) cantilevered or spanned from one side to the other over the pond.
