I have a 3000 gallon pond with a Max-flo 2900 pump which feeds a 30 gallon barrell with 2 matala mats and then bio material, this feeds into a 150 gallon RM trough. I've been having to clean the filters on a weekly basis because it gets clogged. Sometimes it overflows because the filters get backed up. Temporarily i have it feeding right into the 150. should I ditch the mats? and leave the 2 laundry bags of bio material in there? suggestions let me know. Appreciate it.

Try and figure out a way to pre-filter before the pump, Like place in a basket that is wrapped with some type of filter media. matala filtering media is a great bio substrate but it does such a good job that it will clog if your pumping muck into the filter, another thing you can try is get the pump off the bottom of the pond and into the center of the water column of the pond.
