Filling pond from sprinkler pump

I have my sprinkler system setup so that one zone fills the pond for a couple hours a day. Problem is that the solenoid valve for this zone will not shutoff properly. Wondering if the open-end pipe to pond with no sprinkler head prevents the valve from shutting off due to lack of pressure to valve diaphragm? Anyone know if these valves can’t close properly with an open ended pipe?

I do the same, take the valve apart there might be some dirt, tiny rocks in it. I found that in mine when it would keep dripping after turn off. We are on a well. city water you can get build up also

Great. I did clean the inside. Does you solenoid plunger extend far when turned off or just very slightly? I believe it should extend when off to block small hole, right? Wish I have a picture of a solenoid piston when off to see extension.

Replace the solenoid (or at least the inner diaphragm) - their cheap. The autofill's for our ponds each have their own solenoid - thus each is on its own zone with its own timer. We also have float valves in the ponds as backups if the solenoid fails and gets stuck open.

I have such a small pond, maybe maximum of 6X6 feet and only 8 or so inches deep. We lost 5 trees this past year (thinking it might be due to our drought-not sure though), so we had a drip system installed for our yard in April. Had them run a couple of spaghetti lines to the pond, so it gets water added to it 3 times a week when the automated system turns on. So far, it has been working great. It keeps the pond just about at its maximum depth, at least deeper most of the time, compared to when I would manually fill it up about once every 5 or 6 days or so.
Also, we are out of town for 2 w weeks. Hopefully, (with no power loss or anything), everything will be fine when we get back next week. Before, I would just shut the pump off or pay someone to go over every other day or so to add water and keep an eye on it.

Sorry, for the ramble, this has nothing to do with your solenoid question.

Not really sure, I think just a bit, it is a soft diaphragm. i have had them running for years now. Orbit from lowes.
