@Mmathis

coming back from our walk we found these two playing in the driveway.
The one behind was hissing and chasing the front one

I watched it climb on top hook its feet into the shell of the bottom one and bite the shell, smacking with its face.

The bottom one retracted into its shell

These are our maryland wild turtles. I have had to put turtle escapes in my stock tanks so they can climb out if they fall in. I had one drown a few years back.
I don't have turtle pets, have enough things to care for.............lol

Where they two escapees from your habitat?

Ha ha.:LOL:
What type of turtles are those?

I think eastern box turtle...... net picture

I would guess, Eastern Box Turtles, very similar to mine, but with different patterns & colors [mine are Eastern 3-toed). I would hazard another guess that these might both be males. Sometimes they'll do this "mating behavior" as a dominence-thing (but I could be wrong). Females can contain sperm for up to 4 years -- this is an adaptation for when times are bad and they might go years without seeing another turtle. My boys do all kinds of "posturing" when they are in view of one another. It's like they're saying, "MY territory!" Well, I guess that IS what they're saying.....

Good pictures, Addy, but I think they were on to you, LOL!

dominence-thing
I would go with the two male theory, they ignored us walking up, heads straight up, the larger one hissing the whole time. They were not love bumps it was doing with its head, it was trying to bite the smaller turtles shell.
Good pictures, Addy, but I think they were on to you, LOL!
Thanks, the first were with the cell phone, then I went in and got my good camera.

Every year, a blink of an eye and it's gone.
The mental wounds of winter have hardly worn off and here we are in mid-July already!
