I have thrown around the idea of maybe adding 2 Koi to my very large pond that is only stocked with comets that I don't feed. My concern is having to feed them every day. Do you have to feed them? Or can they find other stuff to eat like my comets do. If you do have to feed them, how often?

Koi can be treated like comets, they won't grow as big and they will get hungry enough to eat all vegetaion in the pond if they get that hungry. Never feed them at all if the water temps are below 50 degrees are are going to drop that low. During the summer when the water warms a koi eats a lot. I have seen fish that could eat a 1/2 pound of good quality food a day! So if they eat that in one day you probably won't have and small comets or plants left by mid summer if it's a large koi.

I have 2 koi I got and were only a couple of inches long and are now over 2 feet long and they love being fed and they become very social when fed and like to be petted like a dog .They are pigs they love fruit and veggies .Watermellon ,strawberries ,blueberries and they are your friend for life .They are a lot more social than goldfish but require a lot more attention to water quality and ph .But they are just so loveable that it is worth the extra work .

Since I am still in the process of getting the garden pond thing figured out I think I might wait a few years. Get this pond going great then maybe dig a pond for koi only and set it up that way from the start. :) Can't have too many ponds lol
