hello everyone,
last december i put out a post as i thought i lost all my fish (about 35). a couple of weeks later i thought i saw a couple of smaller ones darting about at the bottom for a few seconds but never saw anything after looking repeatedly. everyone agreed it must have been a heron or predator. other members said to leave the aerator on which i did just in case some survivied and said the little guys can get sppoked and hide between the large stones which line my pond. well i am glad to report that this week most of them survived. the largest one about 10 inches is gone and only the ones 6 inches and smaller survived. i'm guessing the bigger ones couldn't hide and probably were the victims.
at any rate, the toads have returned (at least 3) and one pair are mating and have two long strands of eggs behind them. my question is whether i can start up my filter or will the water flow disrupt the toads eggs and suck them up. i don't mind the water being mucky but would like to get started on filtration.
anyway my sincere thanks to the people that said leave the winter aerator on.
