Hi Forum members,

I am renovating a 12 year old pond on our property that we moved into 5 years ago. We have stripped the old pond that was a mess, creating shelves (It only had one continuous slope with a thousand pebbles) and various depths of 30cm to 80cm & area for a cave for fish to hide, protected by an over hanging wooden jetty walk way. The main body of the pond is about 5m x 4.3m then add the intake bay & waterfall areas as approx shown in attached pic.

My wife and I are slowly getting to the stage of lining the pond underlay, liner, & overlay.

We will use 4 large Aqua Blox in the intake bay with a MantraRay 16000 PondOne pump in a vault that will then pump water to an external PondOne 15000UV Bio Filter which will return the water to the small water fall feature.

I am trying to decide whether it will be worth the extra expense (approx $1300 from what I can see online) to also install a Aquascape 200 series with a AquaSurge 3000-12000 LPH pump in the intake bay. And maybe send the water from this pump to a jet pipe in the pond?

So that is my question, do we add the skimmer an pump? We will like to have about 15 or so gold fish of various sizes.

Also if I did install the skimmer, should I place it directly opposite the entry choke point of the intake bay? And maybe place the intake bay pump vault in the bottom left corner whcih would put it diagnolly across form the skimmer?

Hope that all makes sense. This is our first pond build or reno of am existing pond. I ahve been researching all over the internet but thought I would see if I get any helpful suggestions here.

Cheers Paul.

Can't help w/your questions tho as I don't use skimmer or any aquascape products. Your pond set up looks really nice. Many hours of relaxing enjoyment ahead! What kind of fish do you plan on having?

Welcome to the forum!

Beautiful hole, nice dig.

I only filter with a bog. So can't really see with filters.
Filter smart ones will chime in.
