Do any of your fish ever disappear for a few days, and then reappear one day as though nothing ever happened? I have a completely white koi that is about 8 inches long. I think he is called a platinum ogon. Anyway, when I feed and he is around, he comes up and eats just like all the others. But sometimes I don't see him for days at a time. I have a 2000 gallon with lots of cover for them to hide in, so I guess he could be anywhere. It just seems like odd behavior to me.

Yes. I have had some disappear on me. One of mine, ShyGuy, has disappeared for almost 2 days. (hence the name)
They always come back. (famous last words)

if theyve been in the pond for any length of time and were social and fed with the group, disappearing can be due to being spooked (scared). or in fact its sometimes a sign of illness. social fish such as koi will seperate themselves when ill.

Well, it appears he was doing that because he's dead. That really gets me hot under the collar. Anyone know where I can buy a reasonably priced, 9" Platinum Ogon? (the white fish in the sig pic, in the post above mine)

Sorry for your loss. I had 2 platinum ogons over 20" long that I lost last year. They were nearly perfect and imported directly from Japan.

It wasn't disease, i think he jumped out. He always liked to jump so much.../sniff.

lol just kidding. I wasn't lying about being hot under the collar though. I had grown him probly 2 inches just this summer. Dumb fish accidentally killed himself jumping out. The water quality is fine though, I check it twice a week and I have been checking it every day since this last disappearing act of his. He was just a jumping fool.

Speaking of disappearing fish. We haven't seen one of our favorite's 'Ladybug'. It was a Shebunkin we think. Anyway she hasn't been seen for about 5 days now. There are about 50 or more fish in pond (2500 gals) now but she stood out with her ladybug looking blue and red spots. The only thing we can think of is a raccoon got it. There was one hanging around the yard and bird feeders around that time, We do get them quite often and have heard stories of them snatching up fish from the ponds. The water level is only down about a foot from the top as well but no sign of her jumping out and can';t see her at bottom etc. We might have been losing some of the fish that are orange incolor like most of them and never would have noticed it. Guess it's time to set a hav a hart trap next to the pond for awhile. What a bummer.
