I just removed 600 from my 150 gallon stock tank filter. they were clogging very quickly and were a pain to clean. In a 55 gallon set up they should be fine.

Scrubbies gets grubbies very quickly then you have to do scrubbies on the scrubbies to get out the grubbbies.

You're better off with Matala mats, in my opinion. One big mat, one easy clean. Two big mats (different mesh sizes) two easy cleans.

@morewater I wouldn't use them as mechanical filters. They would house my beneficial bacteria and would be under layers of mechanical filters.

Then use bio-balls. Scrubbies are an absolute pain. Sure, they're cheap....but they're a pain. Stick them in a dollar store mesh laundry bag with a zipper.

Out of curiosity, what's the difference?
Pressure!!! A pressure filter is one that can be secured with an air-tight seal allowing pressure to build up within the filter unit.
A gravity feed filter operates under normal air pressure.
