Can we get any additional info first like what is the size of the pond, how many fish, what size pump, do you have any other filters etc? I mean shoot, I could throw a suggestion out there but without any details I wouldn't know if it was a good suggestion or a terrible one.

Thing is it does not matter the size of the filter as long as you build one that works .The pond is just the thing it is working on and you would need to decide how big and how much filtering you want .I over filter my pond and going to try out a hadite filter next on the side of the pond that will run out under the bridge .One thing I have found is plants in the filter help and so does an aerator hose .The size of the pump and hose going to the filter really matter a lot also .If the pump is to small and you have a large filter it will not fill it up and if you have a big pump you will overfill it .I had to adjust the flow from my pump 4 times before I got it right .Ball valves work great for that and the rest of the water just goes back to the pond through a splitter .That is why also under both filters I have a pond liner and in the back of the filter is an overflow tank adapter with an elbow .All my hoses run up to it from inside the water fall also it leaks it runs back into the pond .Better safe than sorry later
