I must send you both some water fringe, JW and Addy!!! It is such a cool plant, got some of it last year, took a while to establish itself last year, but this spring, coming up everywhere. Not really invasive, spreading out of control, but I had some in the stream and some in pots in the pond, and some in the bog. All of it has grown, it seems to like it the most in the stream, so more shallow water. It grows up to the edge of the stream, but not really over into the ground. It does go over the waterfall into the pond, that's where the pic was taken. Not sure if that's from the stream, or from the pot, and it grow over there. But, it DOES survive the winter. It has much smaller leaf pads than most lilies, they are about 3-4" across, and the flower is about 1.5" diameter. It has that really cute "fringe" on the edge of the flower petals that makes it stand out! Stands up out of the water to bloom, too. I think you are no lower a number of zone than me, Addy, and I'm certain it would love your climate, JW. OK, so I looked it up and sure enough it says 7 or 8!!! Well, that sure can't be correct, because I'm in zone 6. I think you are, too, Addy, aren't you? JW, looks like you would be Zone 8, so it should do fine by you, too. It spreads by runners, just keeps expanding. The stuff in the stream completely froze at one point, so I know it can handle the freeze and thaw. We did have a mild winter, but I think it can go underwater for the winter if necessary, and would do fine that way, too. Let me know if you're interested in some. Be happy to share. :blueflower:
