Pond is 6 weeks old, 3400 gallons and 3 feet deep. My understanding is that it takes a month or more for water to complete a cycle. My Koi seem to be doing well but I can't get the clarity of water to enjoy watching them. My filter is an Aqua Ultima 11 which moves my total volume of water in 45 minutes. I do not have a UV light on my system and was told by my installer that I did not need one to reach the clarity I wanted. Is this true and what steps can I take to improve my water? I just added a water Clarifier (Aqua-One)

Ok Folks, I gave up and got a UV light today! 40 watts and the dealer who also install ponds (he did not do mine) says it may take as much as a week to clear up my water. He tested my PH and saw no reason for alarm from that aspect. Thank you all for careing enough to make suggestions. Waterbug I love the list and will print and post it on my fridge so when I go postal again over my water I can at least get a laugh.

Yep I have the murky Green water in my new pond (Still Clear) and I have gave it over a month with an initial Beckett Algae Cure treatment to kill the spores, guess that did not work :banghead3: and half the pond surface is water lettuce, so I just bought a 9w UV

I am at the similar stage as Jason above~ does this "green water phase" evolve into clear water? What do you all advise? (I have water plants and 20 Reds in the pond).

It will eventually, it might take a few weeks or a couple of months, Mine is getting a little better by the day, but I bought a UV mainly for clarity in general :)

If you have a good balance of plants, fish, good bacteria, and time, the water should clear up on it's own. A good filter is necessary and extra filtration can really make a difference. If you have the water pouring threw a net or basket full of wool batting that can really make a big difference too. :)

Some filters the tiny specks of pea green water can pass right thru, using green water clarifier really helps lots too. :)
