Pic might be helpful. Not sure what your exactly working with.( Type of skimmer) On mine I can remove tha leaf basket and the prefilters. and then just wipe it down and rinse it. No need to really clean it unless there is a build up in the bottom, if that is the case a shop vac will suck most of that out and just simply start the pump back up once you have done that. Your system should in most cases be fine for a short period of time while you maintain the pump with no problem as long as you get it back going as quickly as possible and don't allow the filter material to dry out.

Ahh, good. I have the same skimmer filter. No need for pics. To clean out the sump area you will need to hold the skimmer door up while you vacumn the debris on the bottom. remove the leaf basket and clean throughly. remove the prefilters and then just suck all the debris you can as quickly as possible, if you don't get it all it won't hurt. While you have it down be sure and clean the intake area of your pump and make sure there are no leaves or twigs and such that have made it through. this shouldn't happen if the prefilters are all the way down and cleaned regularly. But if it sucks water when clogged like mine does I have a problem with the kids or wife just lifting one to allow for the water to flow better, intead of taking them out and cleaning them.

what size pump you using in the skimmer? are you using it on the 2500 gal pond? I'm wondering if I should add another filter & pump to my pond

The pump I have in the skimmer is a 2860gph @ 2' head. Regularly a 3200 gph a 0 ft of head pump. I run it just for the Bio filter falls, I also run a second pump 2000 gph @4' ft of head to run my bog garden/taller water fall and supply water movement from the far end of the pond. It is aprox. 2500 gallons total capacity. I don't recommend going any bigger than the one I have, It's really slightly too much pump for the skimmer but it was what the pond company I ordered the system froms recommendation, If/when I have to replace I'm going to drop down just a little.
