I have some lilies coming from Addy. Should I pot them in clay (I use cat litter) or pea gravel?

In my experience both serve their purposes. As far as clay I usually use kitty litter. But I also use pebbles. I prefer to plant the lilies in clay then top with pebbles otherwise the clay makes a mess and clouds up the water.

Just divided and replanted last night in kitty litter. No stones though - I find if you lower the pot slowly and let the clay get wet first you get very little clouding. Also our fish are very interested in pebbles!

I planted my lilies from Addy in clay kitty litter and wet the pots down with a hose, prior to lowering them into the pond - no clouding of pond water.
