Check Valve Question

I have a spring loaded check valve from my first pond build that I installed again in line with the waterfall. I added a second skimmer box and pump to the waterfall and added a check valve WiITHOUT a spring. Same pumps in each skimmer. The flow restriction on the spring loaded check valve looks to be 50% less. Can I remove the spring without affecting the check valves ability to work?
Unfortunately with my first build I didnt know the differencce and took what was reccommended. If I can't remove the spring I will Buy a new one without a spring. Thankfully I purchased the ones that come with a union so it will be easy to remove and either fix or replace.

Get a new one. Even if you can remove the spring, the valve was made to function with one so may not perform correctly with just the back pressure from water weight.
